Trendy Cashmere Cardigans

Winter is here and I can already feel the cold, but I am excited to about the latest trendy cashmere cardigans out on the market.  This year, there are so many different ones to choose from and so many different styles.  Before choosing, think through the following:

1.     Style – What style cardigan are you looking for?  Do you want a long cardigan or a short cardigan?  If you want a trendy one, how trendy do you want to go?  Remember that if the item is too trendy, then you won’t be able to wear it next year and you may not want to spend too much money on it.  However, if the item is not that trendy and you are looking for something stylish, then you may not wear it and all of that money you spent on the cardigan will go to waste.

2.    Money – How much are you willing to spend?  There are countless choices and the prices range from $50 to more than $1000.  Cashmere is more expensive and a good cashmere cardigan will last you a while so consider your budget.  Normally, for around $200, you will find a great stylish cardigan that you can wear this year and into next year.

3.    Closet – Look through your closet and see what clothes you will match the cardigan with.  This will help you determine if you want one that is colorful or if you just want to buy a black cashmere cardigan that can go with everything.  Also, depending on your style, you will want to buy a cardigan that matches that style.  Don’t buy a short one if everything in your closet is longer and you don’t have many skirts or dresses.  Buy a long cardigan if you’ve got plenty of t-shirts, skinny jeans, and boots to match.

4.    Figure – Look at your figure and make sure you know what type of cardigan will look best on you.  For some people, the long cardigan looks great since it allows them to hide their larger thighs and waist.  For others, a short cardigan may look better since there are a lot of boxier short cardigans that allow them to balance out the skinny jeans and leggings they like to wear underneath.  Whatever your body type, make sure you understand what will look best on you.

After thinking through these things, check out some of the great new cardigans that I’ve found below.

Cashmere Bed Socks

Cashmere bed socks are fantastic for sleeping in.  If you haven’t heard the term bed socks, they are basically socks that you wear to bed.  In the winter, when lots of heat escapes from your body, having extra layers is important for keeping warm.  While you are sleeping, your body cools down a bit so keeping it warm with extra socks can be important.  For some people who want to save money on their heating bill, adding extra layers, especially socks, can be the difference between setting your thermostat at 60 versus 55 degrees.  This can save a few hundred dollars throughout the winter since you may run the heat all night.

When shopping for cashmere bed socks, you can either look for pure cashmere socks or even a pair of socks that are worn regularly on a day to day basis.  Some manufacturers make bed socks that are different from the regular socks.  You will find that these are a bit thicker and looser.  They aren’t going to hug your feet as tightly since you are sleeping in them.  Also, they tend to be more expensive since these are considered specially made for sleeping in and not just for everyday use.  However, a good pair of cashmere socks will also work for bed.

For the cashmere bed socks, make sure you do not wear them out or around the house.  Put them on when you get into bed.  Put them on at night as you get ready to go to bed.  Keep them by your bedside so you can reach for them really easily and won’t use them elsewhere.  Also, wash them once a week.  Since you are just wearing them to bed, they are like your pajamas.  You don’t have to wash the pajamas every day.  Instead, you can just wash them every week after wearing them to bed each night.

When shopping for these bed socks, look for ones that feel really soft.  You want to roll into bed with them so you want them to be really comfortable.  Choose a color that you love.  For some, that means colors that are soft and soothing such as pink, grey, or baby blue.  Or, choose something that you would enjoy putting on.  These are bed socks so you can definitely have fun with them.  The other suggestion is to choose socks that match your pajamas.  Whatever you choose, remember that cashmere bed socks will keep you warm while you sleep and should feel soft, cuddly and comfortable.

Cashmere Socks

During the winter, one of the best ways to keep warm is to wear cashmere socks.  The two main places where heat escapes from the body are your head and your feet.  Therefore, keeping your feet really warm is key to keeping the rest of your body warm.

There are many types of cashmere socks to purchase.  Like traditional socks, there are the long socks that go up a person’s leg.  Then, there are also the shorter socks that stop at the ankles.  Depending on how warm you want to keep the rest of your body, you should choose long or short socks.  The short socks are easier to wear, but the long socks are fantastic for warding off the cold.  Long socks act similar to leggings and allow a person to cover more of their leg and keep the bottom half of their bodies warm.  Most of the time, they will cost you anywhere from $20 to $100.

Pure cashmere socks are one of the warmest items that you can purchase.  For some people, they may feel that pure cashmere is a bit too warm, especially if they are used to wearing cotton socks.  If that is the case, look for a cashmere and silk blend instead of pure cashmere.  The other option is to look for thinner pure cashmere socks instead of the thicker type. The thinner ones won’t be as warm, but will still feel marvelous.

There are a lot less mens cashmere socks to purchase than womens cashmere socks.  Men tend to have better circulation so men’s cashmere socks are not as necessary.  In fact, some men complain about how hot they get when they wear these socks.  For women, wearing cashmere is the ultimate luxury.  From cashmere pants to cashmere pullovers, there are all types of outfits for women to wear.  Adding socks on her feet are fantastic, especially to wear around the house at home.  Finally, consider a pair of cashmere socks for your child or baby.  Children have less awareness of how cold they are, especially babies who cannot speak up.  Therefore, putting a pair of warmer socks on their feet allows them to keep warm, especially when they go outside to play in the snow and cold.

Cashmere socks are the ultimate luxury.  They are soft and warm and comfortable on the feet.  Consider a pair or two to get you through the winter.

Best Winter Cashmere Cardigan

Winter is finally here and I can start looking for some new warm clothes. My first item to buy? A cashmere cardigan of course! Here are the best winter cashmere cardigans that I’ve found in the stores:

Marled cashmere cardigan – J. Crew
Check out this first one. The cardigan is a little chunkier and it is fantastic over a thin t-shirt or tank. It hits at the hips and comes in a warm grey color. Plus, don’t forget where J. Crew gets its cashmere – the same place as a “world-famous mill in Piedmont” (to quote them) or otherwise known as Loro Piana – the designer and maker of fantastic and outrageously expensive cashmere (expect to spend at least $1000). This cardigan will only cost you $298.

Ralph Lauren Wool-Cashmere Cardigan
I love this next cardigan. Simple, basic and something you can pair with everything, whether it’s black leggings or a short skirt. It comes in 3 colors – red, heather grey, and black, and is the perfect cardigan for those looking for something basic to wear all winter. Get it for $225.

Splendid Shadow Stripe Cashmere Cardigan
This next item is so cute. It is a thinly striped cardigan that you can layer. You can even do that new look that women are trying out – layering one heavier cardigan over a lighter one. This cardigan is so thin, but yet so warm. The stripes give it a trendier look than the traditional one color cardigan. The v-neck in front also makes it very flattering when buttoned or worn open. Buy it at Splendid.com for $267.

Vince Cashmere Draped Shrug
I love all things by Vince. The material he uses is just so nice and his clothes always look good on. This next piece is a modern take on the traditional cardigan. They call it a draped shrug because it does just that. Drapes over the shoulders and hangs delicately in front. Check out the three-quarter cap sleeves that show off your arms, but still keep you warm in the winter. Buy this one at Bergdorf for $285.

Theory Hollis Cashmere Cardigan
This next piece from Theory is a long cardigan. I love long cardigans in the winter. Ever feel like your legs get cold and you don’t know what to do? Well, I always choose a long cardigan when I know I’m going to be out late. This way, my legs will be protected since my boots never come that far up. This Theory long black cardigan is gorgeous. It falls slimly over your body and is thin so it doesn’t make you look chunky. Shopbop.com is carrying this for $365.

The pockets are topped with little white bows and the black and white look works great with skirts and shirts in different colors. Buy this from Nordstrom for $295.

White + Warren Superfine Ruffled Cashmere Cardigan
A cardigan doesn’t always have to be so conservative. Check out this really feminine cardigan that adds so much to a plain white t-shirt and jeans. After putting this on, I felt transformed into someone much girlier. The knit is so fine and thin and the ruffles drape really prettily around your body. I tried it with a pencil skirt and tank and it looks great too. It costs $295 and is well worth the investment.

Michael Kors Cashmere Shrug
Finally, I couldn’t resist throwing in this Michael Kors Cashmere Shrug that I saw at Bergdorf Goodman. I don’t know about you, but I am always looking for something to throw on over my dresses. I love my fall dresses, but sleeveless is just too cold in the winter. Why not throw on a cashmere cardigan or cashmere shrug? This shrug is so cute, hits above the waist, and will keep you warm in your dresses all winter long. Get it for $595 or shop around for others.

Hi everyone!

I just saw this video on Lucky magazine about wearing cardigans. If you’ve never seen Lucky magazine, it is this fantastic magazine that showcases just clothes and accessories. Every month, it is filled with great inspirations on what to wear, how to wear them, the latest fashion obsessions, where to shop, and much more. I check my mailbox every day the week I know this magazine is coming. If you don’t subscribe, their website, luckymag.com is also great for all of that information and more. I just found this great video that shows how to match different cardigans to your outfits like jeans, skirts, to the office and out on the town. It’s also really great since it shows how to wear your cardigans in different ways, for example with a belt, rolled up sleeves, etc. Check out the video here:
